In what appears to be another slap across the face for John Howard President Bush praised Prime Minister Kevin Rudd over his withdrawal from the war in Iraq.

Mr Bush also took the time to praise former PM Howard however the US involvement in Iraq looks set to see the Republican party lose control of the government.

In his speech today President Bush said the withdrawl of forces from Iraq would not affect the Australian-US alliance. For many years Mr Howard thought contrary and was a whipping boy for the US government. It was clear during the speech that Rudd seemed a leader in his own right. Rudd showed the leadership Howard never did.
