politics, art, vegan, Melbourne, life, and just stuff…

Tomorrow Monday the 31st there is a global protest against the recent human rights abuse which has taken place in Tibet by Chinese forces. This year is a big year for China, not only holding the Olympic games but also holding the event on the very auspicious date – 8/8/8.

China promised to clean up the human rights violations when they were awarded the 2008 Olympic games. Instead they still do not allow the residents of China or Tibet religious freedoms and crack down on any dissent which is not in-line with the beliefs of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

If you live in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Tasmania, or Perth I urge you to come out and show that this year the world as a global community will not stand by when innocent people are slain and persecuted for having their own beliefs. I’ve listed all the event details for Australia below, if you live outside the borders of Australia there still may be a protest in your city, Google search for your local Tibet action group.

I don’t think boycotting the event is the answer, after all, many nations attended the Olympics in Berlin when it was under Fascist rule.

If anything, more advertisement should be placed in between programming to show that the MAINLAND Chinese are the communist bunch, not the ones in Hong Kong or Taiwan. As an ethnic Chinese person, I don’t want to be labelled as communist, I prefer British origin Chinese person as a Hong Konger by birth.
