How much is life worth? Another level crossing accident
Filed Under Australian Politics, State Government | 1 Comment
We see two accidents in two days in Victoria. Lynne Kosky still says it’s too expensive to put in boom gates at level crossings, or even lights, or even sound alerts to notify drivers. Instead she says rumble strips located more than a kilometre away from the level crossing is satisfactory.
Try telling that to the [...]

Filed Under Australian Politics, State Government | 1 Comment
Lynne Kosky has admitted that the new Victorian ticketing system project “Myki” will run approximately three years late and have a budget blow-out of more than 300% compared to early estimates.
So what went wrong? I think the Victorian citizens deserve a proper investigation into this.
The Auditor-General Des Pearson has just appeared before the Public [...]

How bad can global warming get?
Filed Under Australian Politics, Climate Change, International Politics | 1 Comment
Well it would seem very bad, in a recent study according to Greenpeace rising seas and water shortages will displace about 125 million people in India alone.
Climate change will also trigger erratic monsoons and ruin agricultural systems. We’ve already seen the Bureau of Meteorology put out warnings for extreme conditions leading into winter.
According to Vinuta [...]

For the second day in a row, a day to mark the start of the sixth year of the US-led invasion of Iraq has seen Katyusha rockets hit the green zone.
The green zone is apparently the safest zone in Iraq yet it’s seen double digits death in the last two days. It would seem that [...]

Syria tightens controls on Internet users across country
Filed Under International Politics | Leave a Comment
The new directive, let’s block everything we don’t agree with. This could be the pivot point of technology freedom versus government control. Recently Syria has tightened requirements of ISP’s to log users. Following the recent scene where we see the “great firewall of China” block Tibetan protesters views, Syria has tried to follow-up.
Let us hope [...]

This comes after I tried to add my blog to Chinese search engines, it was initially visible but [...]

It has been widely known that accused terrorist Osama Bin Laden has been holding out in the mountainous areas that border Afghanistan and Pakistan. We now see a change in leadership in Pakistan and with that a change in the approach on the “war on terror.”
What does this mean for the western world?
At the moment [...]

In what appears on the surface to be sideshow antics by the lawyer in the Bali bombers case, he has now retracted the appeal because his clients were not allowed to appear in court.
The three accused men – Amrozi Nurhasyim, his brother Ali Ghufron (alias Mukhlas), and Imam Samudra have been in court for [...]

Britain to airlift 2,000 Iraqis to a new life in Scotland
Filed Under International Politics | 2 Comments
This is an interesting article I found when reading the ABC News website. Apparently Britain has accepted 2,000 applications for resettlement from Iraqi’s that helped British forces whilst in Iraq, translators, etc.
A great point was made by one of the comments on the site:
You don’t pull your local “assets” out unless you are about to [...]

Tasmania on board with NSW on political funding review
Filed Under Australian Politics, State Government | Leave a Comment
Tasmania’s Treasurer, Michael Aird, has agreed with NSW Premier Morris Iemma that political funding needs to be reviewed with the possibility of private political donations being disallowed. Aird stopped short of supporting Iemma’s total public funding in saying “there’s never been a great push in Tasmania for publicly-funded elections, but if there was going to [...]
