Reporters Without Borders stage Beijing Olympics protest

Today at the official start of the Beijing Olympics torch rally Reporters Sans Frontières were able to get behind the speaker and hold up a protest flag. The flag consists of five handcuffs in the traditional lay out of the Olympic rings logo.

Glen Eira’s ‘no’ to same-sex list

Whilst it is inevitable that the Victorian State government will push through legislation to allow the recognition of same-sex relationships it seems that the council of Glen Eira disagrees.
Whilst the councils of Melbourne, Yarra, and Port Phillip have shown support for the idea of same-sex relationship entitlements, Glen Eira hasn’t.

I actually read about this on the train when someone left an MX behind. Uniting Churh Minister, John Evans thinks the Good Friday holiday should be dropped and replaced with a holiday which is respectful of all faiths, he’s suggested reconciliation day. Minister Evans was quoted as saying:

Changes loom for donations made to parties…

During John Howard’s reign of terror when he gained absolute control of the Senate he changed the rules around disclosure of political donations. Council suspends talk on desalination plant
