politics, art, vegan, Melbourne, life, and just stuff…

I just received access to the beta trial today, I decided to try it out on one of my
fave shows “The Bill.” the speed was great, I connect on 21mb/s ADSL2… I found when the
initial loading started I could hear but I couldn’t see anything, I had to click rewind
before the video came through.

The quality of the video is kinda crap, I know it’s Flash video… My previous job
was in a production company doing web video so I can understand the limitations on
broadcast.

I’m also a participant of TPG IPTV, I know the technology behind this is completely
different however with the change of government with the Labor government push on
broadband there could be an edge here where the ABC could be a requisite and take on
multicast IPTV technology. A blue sky thought but I think it’s worth mention.

The offering of programmes was very limited, I think the existing programmes which
are distributed via video from the standard website need to be integrated, that is Four
Corners, Foreign Correspondent, 7:30 Report, things like Media Watch.

To see total integration would be fantastic and since the ABC business model is
without advertising I think this would be awesome to see all the ABC shows on demand.
Denton would be popular.

Ok, so that’s all I have to offer for now, my last mention is in the name of the
product, “ABC Playback” is kinda old-school, i think “ABC Rewind” is much better in terms
of what’s on offer.
